Grizzly with taste for lamb killed

BOZEMAN - A 5-year-old male grizzly bear with an interstate taste for sheep was killed Wednesday at the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks' laboratory in Bozeman

Federal and state wardens captured the bear about 12 miles southeast of Absarokee where it had been killing sheep on a private ranch, the agency said.

The bear previously was captured near Pinedale, Wyo., in the fall of 1996 after killing sheep in that area.

After that first incident, the bear was relocated to the northcentral area of Yellowstone National Park, but in early June it was located north of Dubois, Wyo.

Kevin Frey, a state grizzly bear management specialist, said the hundreds of miles this bear had traveled was "another example of the extraordinary traveling abilities of grizzly bears, especially young male grizzly bears." Associated Press

True they travel but not always within national parks, core areas, migration corridors or buffer zones.
