September 4, 1998 Missoulian article: Black bear shot in Somers.

SOMERS - (AP) A black bear caught trying to get into a bed-and-breakfast through a window was shot to death Thursday morning.

The 150-pound bear was on the porch of the Outlook Bed and Breakfast in Somers when game warden Karl Brooks arrived around 8:30 a.m.

The bear jumped off the porch, stopped and looked at Brooks, then stood up on its hind legs. Brooks killed it with a shotgun blast from about 15 yards away, said John Fraley, Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesman.

"It didn't run away from him," Fraley said.

Fraley said the department had received numerous calls about the bear, including one report that it had acted aggressively toward a woman early Thursday morning.
